Like A G6 (Feat. Far East Movement & Dev)

Hey friends - check out the new album from the Foals. Total Life Forever is the 2nd album for the 5 piece out of Oxford, England. They are on Sub Pop in the US, so you know it is going to be good.

The Miami video is crazy, if you want to explore further

If you have heard of Wavves by now, you are probably as stoked as I am for Nathan Williams sophmore record to come out in August. After watching this video posted on Vimeo from the recording sessions in Oxford, Mississippi, I am reeeeeeally excited. The new sound is trademark Wavves, but noticeably refined and polished just enough to retain fans of the ultra-lo-fi sound while picking up more ears in the white wash. As Nathan says, “I do it for myself, I don’t know if that’s selfish but I wanna make songs that sound cool to me.” Whoever you are doing it for Nathan, we love it and can’t wait for the full album (btw I’ve heard it, it is amazing, and yes I will be buying it on vinyl.)

Until the release, you can grab the first single “Post Acid” and some other great tracks on Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound website for free.

If you have not gotten into Darwin Deez yet, then consider your early summer playlist filled. We first caught his sound on the Xaphoon Jones Mixtape last fall and must say that his self titled album is incredible from start to finish. And how could you argue with his hair or magical dance moves. I can’t. I won’t. His music video for radar detector is pure hipster bliss and is worthy of multiple replays.

We have posted quite a few of Kid Cudi’s music videos, but for reasons still unknown to science, we still can’t get enough. Here Cudi and Snoop-a-loop colab on an amazingly simple yet intoxicating video for “That Tree.” Personally I love The Filth remix much better, but the original is still loads of fun.
And for the second, we are pulling one out of the vault. James Brown’s 1964 performance of ‘Please Please Please’ on the T.A.M.I. Show is one of the best of all time. Jump to 2:30 and enjoy a piece of history.

The first video this week comes from director Romain Gavras for the new M.I.A. single Born Free. There is not much I can say other than amazing and controversial. The vivid imagery draws from similar injustices that surely take place all over the world while replacing the victim with an unlikely, however relevant group. Whatever you take away from watching this video is inherently yours. Applause to Romain for producing an inspired piece of motion art.

Next we have an AMAZING (albeit less controversial) music video for Temper Trap’s Sweet Dispostion directed by Daniel Eskil. This song still gives me the shivers to this day, truly a model pop rock sound from start to finish. The music video does just the same with a simple idea executed masterfully. Enjoy the ride.

Just a friendly reminder to set your alarm clocks for this coming Thursday, Dec 3 when La Blogotheque, one of the most beloved music blogs of all time, will release a very special performance by breakout artist of the year Phoenix. By the looks of the teaser they will perform under the Eiffel Tower. A more perfect stage for the French power pop group does not exist. Check back Thursday for the full session.

I was pretty stoked when I ran across this video today for the new Calvin Harris single Flashback, definitely one of my favorite finds of the day. The song is very catchy, well constructed and sure to be a dance floor killer.

I also recently became engrossed by a new sound coming from Miami Horror, who also just dropped a new single and artful video to go along with it. Look out for the full album soon.

I caught the Miike Snow (click for all BDN coverage) show in ‘The City’ earlier this week, and Jack Peñate put on a fun opening set. It is also worth noting Miike Snow stopped using an autotuner in their live performances.
Jack Peñate has definitely got an eccentric British musician thing going on, as revealed in his videos below. The ‘Pull My Heart Away’ video was shot in the same location as Indian Jones Raiders of the Lost Arc - And who doesn’t love that?
