Nobody can argue against the almighty power of the mixtape, especially after a year like 2009. We have seen artists like Wale, Drake, and Kid Cudi rise from underground hip-hop to the main stage of radio, MTV and iTunes. As purveyors and champions of the mixtape, we here at BDN strive to filter the best of the best to you the reader. Here are some late season goodies that have been playing around the office the last few weeks.
First up is the much anticipated Mixtape Volume 4 by Hood Internet.
Then we have one of my personal favorites, Chiddy Bang’s long over due Mixtape, The Swelly Express. Not much new music here but it is nice to have it all in a great lil’ package for those inevitable road trips.
One of our favorite new kids in the hip-hop game, Whiz Khalifa, has been pumping out mixtapes like crazy this year. Add ‘Burn After Rolling’ to the list, and then be sure to buy his first album ‘Deal or No Deal’ hitting stores next Tuesday!
Last but not least, yet another masterful Jay-Z mixtape has been added to the already long list. Taking a slightly different approach, Music Without Borders has remixed the American Gangster Soundtrack with the sounds of 70’s Indian cinema. Give a “Hindustani Gangster” a listen.
It’s official, 3OH!3 have released the remix of their number one song on the radio, ‘Don’t Trust Me’ feat. Mike Posner and Kid Cudi! Be sure to download it below.
And if you haven’t heard, inside sources at BDN have confirmed that the next single off their ‘Want’ album ‘Starstrukk’ has been remixed and will feature none other than last summer’s chart topper Katy Perry. We got a sneak listen and can’t wait to see the kids flip their shit. Till then, check the foot to face video for ‘Starstrukk.’
