Our lead developer at Rage Digital, Keiran Flanigan aka Aeliox, has a new site up.  My main dev partner on all mobile projects Keiran’s the one that makes our Rage apps so smooth and polished.  He also has a great eye for design which is very rare for developers.

posted on 12.12.10 Orbotix: Sphero, The Smartphone Controlled Ball

We’re excited to see Boulder based startup Orbotix get some nice press last week on their first product, Sphero. This isn’t your average ball.  The iPhone/Android controlled ball is just the beginning.  The potential for the Orbotix platform and smartphone controlled devices is huge.

Rage Digital is excited to have the opportunity to work with Orbotix on the user interface for Sphero!  They have a great team and we’re confident there CES demo will be a smash hit! I think there may be a Wired vs Gizmodo challenge arranged as well.

Very soon, we’ll know whether Apple has changed the world again. The company has scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. Eastern time today. For months now, the rumor mills and blogosphere have been abuzz with speculation that Apple will debut a new class of device based on the iPod Touch and an updated version of the iPhone OS that uses a larger screen (10 or 11 inches diagonal, perhaps 7) to provide a multitouch, gesture-based media slate for e-books, electronic magazines, Web browsing, video playback, and apps.

In other words, if the rumors are right, this device won’t be a tablet-style MacBook running Mac OS X with handwriting recognition added à la the failed generations of Windows tablet PCs. Instead, it will be a device for presenting, finding, and organizing media content, as well as running the wide of apps that iPhone users now enjoy. It should also run existing iPhone apps.

Apple has just confirmed a “special event” they’ll be having on the 27th.  Likely to be released is the new tablet device.  We posted a cool Sports Illustrated demo recently. I’d love to see Adobe Creative Suite Touch come out! That’d be amazing.

Imagine a magazine cover converting into a video highlight of that moment. It should be here in early 2010 with Apple’s release of the Tablet.  Basically an enlarged iPhone, the main question for developers is what operating system will the device run.  A combination of OSX and the mobile iphone OS?  It’s awesome to imagine how everything from textbooks to comics could be done in this interface.  Watch a Sports Illustrated demo below.

Apple recently had several executives from the Time magazine group at their Cupertino’s campus, where they were asked to present their ideas on the future of publishing. Several mockups of magazines were present in interactive form. It is presumed that more talks took place after the introduction and investigatory meeting. Some publishers also considering Adobe Air as a competing option for digital magazines, but without a revenue/distribution system that iTunes has, it seems unlikely.  Look for Time Inc to release many of there publications on the tablet.
