posted on 26.11.10 Delta Spirit - Rock Concert

We have been pumped on Delta Spirit since about Spring 2009. Check Wayne’s hype here. After a botched concert attempt in June, I finally got to see the crew perform at Webster Hall Tuesday night. They are on tour pushing their new Waits Room EP, which launched 11/16.

Waits Room EP

I expected a somewhat mellow show from the the West Coast based band, but a few songs in to their set the energy level got kicked up a few notches. The band was head banging during their instrumental solos, and the crowd was giving it right back with a few stage divers and an uninvited dude on stage with an impromptu dance that was later described and denounced by the band as ‘Skanking’ (think Mighty Mighty Bosstones…). It was hard not to get caught up in the vibe and sing (or yell) along.

Overall super fun time, so definitely check them out as they finish their tour from the East Coast back to home base in December. Tour schedule is on their MySpace.

A bunch of new snowfunboarding videos are making their NYC debuts this weekend. There are also some classic ski movies in rotation, so there is something for everyone. Check it out if you are in the area. All movies are being shown at Tribeca Cinemas, so there will definitely be a little preparty at the Bat Cave before walking over Saturday night.

Blitzen Trapper first caught our ear last summer with Black River Killer, the follow up to their rad 2008 first release, Fur. Check out our previous Blitzen Trapper coverage! So, we are super pumped for Blitzen Trapper’s second full album release in less than a year! Destroyer of the Void Dropped in early June, and we have definitely been feeling the soothing voice of front man Eric Early and the diverse roster of instruments: ranging from 12 strings, to a piano, to a harmonica.

Out of beautiful Denton, Texas is Alan Palomo and his band Neon Indian. Lots of upbeatness and super-high-notes on the debut album, Psychic Chasms. This got lots of play at the end of 2009, but it is never too late for fun. Get down.

Check the new Miike Snow track.

Billie Holiday was previously only available as a hidden track on the UK version of the debut album, but it was also just released on the “Deluxe Edition” world wide. We were big fans in 2009, and happy to see the momentum continue in 2010.

The Freelance Whales have been making some quality noise on the NY music scene with their debut album - Weathervanes. They are playing tonight (4/13) at Bowery Ballroom, but it is your last chance to catch them before they go on tour with The Shout Out Louds to spread their sound (The show is sold out, so get your Craigslist hustle on). Some have said, and I will agree they are channeling some Postal Service(esque) sounds. Two of the must listens from the album are below.

When life gets heavy we sometimes need music to even us out. For me, the ultimate feel good tunes come in the unexpected form of Folk Rock. The extreme diversity of instruments, unique voices, and quality story lines help your mind escape your everyday situation. Below are a few top picks from two legit Folk Rock ensembles: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Port O’Brien

Sometimes you need to focus in on your work grind and turn your speakers up so loud your roommates are like, ‘WTF!?’ And you are like, ‘F you - Ima do me!’

In that spirit, we present Sleigh Bells: Out of Brooklyn, this boy/girl duo have some seriously hard hitting instrumentals. We can’t really understand what is going on, but damn that ish is loud. So turn it up and don’t stop until you piss someone off!
