posted on 19.02.10 Noise Not Unheard :: Red Light Company

Not sure how these guys passed my radar last year but Red Light Company has been playing on my computer heavily the last few hours.  I would call them a melding of The Editors and Ima Robot, melodic and poppy with a touch of arty.  Whatever you call it, I like it and cant wait for more.

posted on 16.02.10 Wired Magazine takes the leap

While we are on the subject of magazines, I thought it wise to mention one of my favorite print publications, Wired, and the future it is entering with the development of an iPad friendly version of the magazine.  As you can see in the video below, the user experience of traditional print media and new multimedia rich online content is soon to be married in the immanent media renaissance via a variety of tablet devices entering the market similar to and including Apple’s iPad.

I agree that this is where the tablet will see its best use: the tried and true presentation of words and pictures mixed with the on demand media at the touch of a finger our generation has grown a custom to.  These are definitely exciting times for publishers and advertisers alike, as well as consumers eager to interact with what interests them in new ways.  We are optimistic that the tablet publications will not be the death of print media as a whole, but rather the ushering in of a new era in media consumption.

posted on 05.02.10 New (Orleans) Curren$y Mixtape Dropping Super Bowl XLIV Sunday

That’s right kidos, New Orleans own Curren$y is dropping a new mixtape in conjunction with his hometown’s first ever Super Bowl appearance this Sunday.  Although my heart was ripped out and smashed with a Gallagher mallet by the Vikings tragic season ending overtime game against the Saints two weeks back, I am going to be pulling for N.O. to trounce the Colts and will be bumping the new tracks all day.  Here is a sick video of the song “Vision” that will be on the “Where is Smokee Robinson?” mixtape, links to follow on Sunday.

VISION from Creative Control on Vimeo.

Also, be sure to grab the AdBowl iPhone app and participate this Sunday from your barstool, couch, treestand, ice house or outhouse to vote on the best commercials from this years Super Bowl advertisers.

posted on 29.01.10 Favorite Artist of Oh Nine :: Miike Snow

Its fairly unanimous up here in the BDN cloud, Miike Snow was our favorite artist of 2009.  While last years efforts by Phoenix, Florence and the Machine, Curren$y, Empire of the Sun, Passion Pit, Major Lazer, Little Boots, La Roux and DatA sit at the top of our list, Miike Snow takes the crown.  Their self titled release is a masterful collection from start to finish and the many remixes it has spawned only continue the journey into their unique sound.  Check out this club ready remix of Silvia that is my personal favorite and be sure to turn it up to 11.

posted on 24.01.10 US Olympic Snowboard Team Announced :: Go Louie! Ride Omatic!

All bad snowboard news aside (Kevin Pearce, Danny Davis) the US Olympic Snowboard Team has been announced. For the men we have Shaun White, Scotty Lago, and Omatic’s very own Louie Vito!

We have watched Louie progress every summer at Windells and seen him come up through the ranks of halfpipe riding. Last year brought him to the masses on Dancing with the Stars and this year could bring him an Olympic medal! We here at BDN will be cheering him on while shaking Cowbell2010 on our iPhones! And for the ladies we have Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, and Colorado’s own Gretchen Bleiler holding it down. Good luck team!

Band-aids! F-Yeah! Wal-Mart! F-Yeah! Fake T’s! F-Yeah!

posted on 08.01.10 Windells Under Construction :: Web 2.bro

While touring the Northwest with the Burton Am Series at Mt Hood Meadows this weekend I had a chance to stop by Windells to check out the campus and see the improvements.  To anyone who has not been to Windells in the last few years, or ever for that matter, there have been massive additions in the way of outdoor concrete skate features.  The mad scientists are working all winter to lay as much concrete as possible before campers run rampant again.  Bonafied dope.

Oh yeah, they also have a new basketball hoop.  Who’s in for a game of lightning before pasta night at the Heshin’ Delicatessen?
