posted on 13.08.09Absinthe Films Webisode : Next Level Sh*t
Just got the heads up on this webisode from the guys at Absinthe Films in the lead up to their upcoming feature release “Neverland.” Watch as Dan Brisse talks about the setup and eventual execution of the urban road gap of the year! If you were not convinced this will be the video premier of the year then you should be after this…
And if you haven’t seen the trailer, here it is one more time…
I’ve been meaning to start this lil’ column for a while now, so here we go.
It’s hot as hell these days, and if you aren’t living the creek life then you better find a coffee shop of movie theater that pumps their AC like Jr. is still in the White House. Another solution is to start geeking out on the new snowboard teasers that have been flowing into our inbox like the rocky mountain waters into my can o’ banquet beer. Here are the ones we are most excited about thus far…
Lets Go Get Lost - Isenseven My personal favorite, euro with a touch of robot food
The song is “Sushi” by Kyle Andrews. The Album “Real Blasty” is available now. Check his site (www.myspace.com/kyleandrews) and DL the track below.
Hard to Earn - Technine No hip-hop in the teaser, I like it already
They Came From - Faktor Films Scandanavians + HD 3D = Fuck Yes!
The B - Burton If you play it backwards, its forward
Nice Try - People Crew Heavvvvvvyyyyyy Metaaaaallllll
Re:Session - TGR May not be much snowboarding, but you get the picture. This is some heavy big mountain skiing at its best, good stoke before heading to Silverton.
Seems there is a huge resurgence of Heavy Metal, while a few are holding on to the Electro deal. Whats your favorite?
posted on 18.06.09Ken Block Gymkhana 2 Project - Subaroozing, Ugh!
If you are anywhere in the know about DC Shoes owner Ken Block, you know he is mentally unhinged when it comes to rally driving. Aside from being a rally driver for Subaru America and racing around the globe, he has also been seen hitting 70 foot kickers at Snow Park in NZ (check out the cover shot from Snowboarder,) overshooting and 171 feet off a dirt jump for the Stunt Junkies series, and recently jumping under a back-flipping Travis Pastrana .
His newest contribution to awesome, the Gymkhana 2 Project, falls somewhere between “WTF” and “OMG!” Although being loosely catalogued as an “infomercial” for the new line of performance clothing and shoes based on his rally outfit (which totally suck btw,) the video is more of a Hollywood showcase of his godly driving skills than anything else. 360’s, 80 mph horizontal burnouts, near death drifts, fluorescent lights, crash dummies, explosions, Rob Dyrdek and a paintball gun…this video has it all. Thanks to RadCollector for the heads up.
Remember breath while you watch, it may take your breath away…
Be sure to check out his other YouTube videos for further drooling.
posted on 01.04.09BestCompNever - US Open and '09 World Quarterpipe Championships
My last few weeks have been spent undertaking and witnessing extreme doses of mahem. Let me explain. I left the Indian Summer of Colorado for a lil’ contest work in the Ditry Northeast. First stop, Waterville Valley New Hampshire. If you’ve never been, you probably never will. But for those of you lucky enough to have been (and by been I mean you either grew up here or drove up from Boston one time) then you know what it was all about. Outdated accomadations, one bar discreetly named “Legends,” and a decent little hunk of east coast ‘solid’ to slide down on your toboogin or shred stick. After surviving the weekend, I made a pit stop in Burlington, VT for some of the grimyest karyoke I’ve ever seen. Who doesn’t want to slam pitchers of PBR while two quistionable gentleman from the backwoods of Vermont confidently recite ‘NSYC’ two inches away from each other? Now the real reason I took two flights to VT, the US Open. Whoever decided to schedule St. Patty’s Day right before the contest is a bastard, but we made the most of it. Four days of shred later I can say I witenessed Luke Mitrani go 25+ ft out of a 30 ft quarterpipe of ice,
got to see DJ Benzi make everyone drunk enough to dance like banshees (download the US Open Amplitude Mixtape,)
celebrate Danny Kass’ fifth Open Halpipe title,
and close it down with a dope Santogold concert apres style.
The Afterstory: 09 World Quarterpipe Championships, Somewhere VT
I remember hearing someone mention a smaller, grittier contest somewhere in the woods outside of Stratton the Monday following the Open, but had to catch a flight from Burlington so decided to look into it when I got home. Well, after I read the article covering the ‘World Quarterpipe Championships’ I wish I had stuck around.
Fire, PBR, Fireworks, and the drunkest motherfuckers of all time made this a contest to be proud of. My only wonderment is where was Danimal, he would have loved this.
As I bask in the Boulder sun and think about the coming summer, one word comes to mind. Windells. Many of us here at BDN have done our time at Windell’s Snowboard Camp on Mt. Hood, Oregon in the years past so I thought it befitting to see what they have in store for this coming summer.
Every year they seem to find ways to make camp better and better, from adding concrete features all over the campus and making B.O.B. better and better, to replacing the old wood spined out mini ramp with an all new concrete version! The mountain has been relatively unchanged until this summer however, when old man Windell rolls out the only tow rope on Mt. Hood. Best part, it’s private and only available to Windell’s Campers. Not gonna lie, this makes a Minnesota man drool. Let it be known, a BDN road trip is in the works to verify the awesomeness.
See if you can pick extended family members James Frederick, Reid, Dre, Molly Agguire…actually anyone who has or does work here is a friend indeed.
It’s nice to see the web design world appreciating snowboard graphics. Unfortunately, whoever posted this just stuck to the well-known big brands (pretty much copy/pasted the Burton catalougue. But definitely some rad stuff!
Turns out my upcoming trip to Manhatten comes a week late to catch the Red Bull Snowscrapers event. Although the jump didn’t live up to its full potential, it’s an impressive structure and an event that you can bet will be bigger and better next year. Cheers to Red Bull for continually pushing action sports into bigger and more creative venues.

We first ran into Silas while working at summer super camp Windells. It’s been fun to watch him come up and now to get skater of the year! Crazy… here’s his part in the Habitat Skateboards vid Inhabitants.
Just found out about this little park project that Burton has running at a handful of resorts around the world called The Stash. Utilizing the natural surroundings The Stash brings the park into the woods and includes a plethora of tree jibs, jumps, bonks, banks and slashes. I will be heading out to Northstar at Tahoe to see if The Stash lives up to the hype. If the park is any bit as fun to navigate as their website, I am sure to have hours of good times.
Incredibly fun snowboard video by Hampus and Jacob. Reminds us of the Robot Food Trilogy from its authentic story, art design, and ambiguously hip soundtrack. So grab the popcorn, crack a can and enjoy the show…
