Beatport is an awesome mini itunes of electronic music and remixes. The Denver based company launched in January 2004 with 79 record labels on board. By mid 2004, Beatport started to gain recognition collaborating with some of the top DJs and tech companies.
Currently they’re listing more than 8000 labels with thousands of new tracks added each week.

Hot on the scene this year is a new sound coming out of San Diego, CA called Wavves. I’ll be honest, the lo-fi surfer-on-acid-garage-punk sound took me a few listens to get into. Once I heard that the entire album was written, performed, recorded and produced by one dude, I got a bit more interested. But truthfully, it wasn’t until I had the chance to see Wavves live in their native San Diego a month back that I got to experience the full genius that everyone has been hyping all summer.
After a few warm up tracks, front man Nathan Williams (who just happens to be a good friend’s fiance’s brother, small world) and his new drummer Zach Hill (of Hella) stole the room and brought it back to a hipster-surfer dance off deep in the psychedelic past of the 50’s so-cal surf scene. BDN definitely approves Wavves as a band to keep on your radar the next few years. Check out a few tracks below and catch ‘em live if you have the chance.

I was pretty stoked when I ran across this video today for the new Calvin Harris single Flashback, definitely one of my favorite finds of the day. The song is very catchy, well constructed and sure to be a dance floor killer.

I had the pleasure of seeing Blitzen Trapper at The Fox Theatre here in Boulder last night and must say that the show was all I hoped it to be and more. The six piece band from Portland, OR filled the stage quite nicely with a tight and well orchestrated sound. Although it was great to hear a few of my favorite Blitzen tracks live, including Furr and Black River Killer, it was the barrage of lesser known tracks that really caught my ear. I was really brought back to a sound reminiscent of the 70’s with their flawless harmonies and country folk-rock sound.
Although this show did not bump Bon Iver from the leader board of shows we’ve been to at the Fox this year, I would give it a well deserved second place. Upon walking out I stopped by the merch booth and scored the new “Black River Killer” EP on Vinyl for $10, which also came with an access code to download an mp3 version of the EP. 2X Bonus! If more artists did this I would buy everything on Vinyl, who really wants a cd anyways?
Xaphoon Jones may best be know as the producer for a little Philadelphia hip-hop group by the name of Chiddy Bang that lit up blog town this summer. Well, we just found out he released a kick ass mixtape about a month back and decided to spread the good word on to you. ‘Hipster Dance Party’ anyone?
