Recently blipping the BDN soundar is the up-and-comer Dan Black. Here is what last.fm has to say about DB…
“Anyone who even glanced at the end of year polls for who to watch out for in 2009 won’t have been able to miss Dan Black’s name. Off the back of his incredible Notorious BIG cover ‘Hypntz’ and the electro anti-love gem ‘Yours’ – the Parisian-based-Englishman was hailed as one of “the” pop talents to watch out for in 2009 by critics across the board. His highly anticipated forthcoming debut album will be released in June 2009 and is currently being recorded in an 18th Century cellar under Dan’s apartment in Paris, before it’s mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Hot Chip, Amy Winehouse, The Kills) in London.”
The tracks that have surfaced before the album drop have been nothing short of inspiring. First we have Dan’s cover of Biggie’s “Hypnotize” that got everyone’s attention. The track was so well produced and catchy that he then decided to redo it with his own lyrics, and “Symphonies” was born, a beautifully melodic song you want to keep on repeat all morning. Passion Pit put there own stamp of approval on his sound by putting out a remix of “Symphonies” recently that is equally as inspired as the original. Also worth a listen is “Alone,” a great ear-bud blaster for the walk to the subway.
Dan Black - Symphonies (Passion Pit Remix)
Like fine wine and stinky cheese, Dan Black’s fine audio has been brought to full-bodied fruition with visual pairings by the Parisian motion design group Chic & Artistic. They masterfully crafted videos for “Symphonies” and “Alone,” both of which are two of the best visual expressions of noise I have oogled in a while. Commence full artistic immersion below…
